About

Hello

Thank you for visiting my website, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I was born in a 3 bed council house on the edge of Luton, where I lived with my 6 brothers, mum, and stepdad.  My brothers always had some hairbrained scheme that usually ended in us getting into trouble with the local farmer, or the neighbours and always our mum as someone was bound to tell her.

I was a very curious kid (ok nosey), but this is where I developed my love of storytelling.  I have always been an avid reader and loved writing stories, my mum once gave me a big book as a gift, It was an illustrated version of Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass and when you turned the book over and upside down it had the adventures of the 5 Little Peppers.  Alice’s adventures are still in my top 10 favourite books.

I left home at 19 to start nurse training, which was a real adventure. I saw some awful things but mostly I saw love, compassion and kindness from both staff and patients.  After stints in various nursing roles both in hospital and the community I decided to specialise in heart disease. I went to work for a large national charity as a Cardiac Support Project Manager.  Travelling around the country I have met many interesting characters and heard some fascinating stories.

I gained a degree in Health and Social Care at the ripe old age of 45 and my teaching diploma at 52. I met people from 18 to 50 during my studies and when I was teaching, again giving me some interesting perspectives to use in my writing.

I really enjoy pub quizzes and my head is full of “useless” information which comes in handy. I try to get to the gym a couple of times a week, not because I enjoy it but because exercise is good for health, or at least that is what my gym instructor tells me! I do enjoy long walks with friends, cooking and visiting historic sites, particularly castles and stately homes, which always have interesting stories attached to them.

I am married to Duncan, we have 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren, we are lucky enough to live on the North Norfolk coast. I love spending time with my family, my daughter lives close by so I see a lot of her children.  My grandson is learning and physically disabled, with complex needs, so we are very hands on grandparents.  I am in the process of writing a novel called Imperfectly Perfect and Noah in the book is based on my grandson.  My son and his family live over a 100 miles away but we facetime a lot and see them when we can, they are a huge support to me, giving me advice on my writing and listening to my (sometimes) crazy ideas.

Growing Invisible is my first book.
